Washington, DC – Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Ranking Member Sam Graves (R-MO) released the following statements after House lawmakers included a provision that would prevent a $7.6 billion cut to Federal highway funding, known as a rescission, in a stopgap spending bill. The House is expected to take up the bill tomorrow.
“Transportation agencies in all 50 states and the District of Columbia are counting on Congress to prevent this massive, multi-billion dollar cut from going into effect, so I applaud my colleagues for taking this issue seriously and including the rescission repeal in this must-pass bill,” Chair DeFazio said. “I’m glad we’re taking a positive step today to give states the certainty they need to carry out long-term projects that make a difference.”
“Fixing the federal highway funding rescission will be a major victory for every state across the country,” Ranking Member Graves said. “Our state and local officials will no longer have to worry about a massive $7.6 billion cut that would sideline important roadway improvements, bridge maintenance and replacement projects, and many more plans to upgrade and modernize our infrastructure system. I applaud the inclusion of the rescission repeal language in the CR and the bipartisan manner in which we got there.”
