Chair DeFazio Applauds Court Ruling That Will Help Compel Trump Administration to Comply with Congressional Oversight

Washington, DC — Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) reacted to news of the DC appeals court ruling that Mazars USA LLP, the accounting firm that prepared financial statements for President Trump, must comply with the congressional subpoena for the President’s financial records:

“Today’s ruling is great news for congressional oversight and our Constitutional duty to hold this Administration accountable. My Committee has been stonewalled by the Trump administration in our attempt to obtain key financial records and fully investigate whether President Trump is violating the Emoluments Clauses of the U.S. Constitution and using the office of the presidency for personal gain. While I fully expect the Trump administration to drag this fight out by mounting yet another appeal, today’s ruling is an encouraging indication that the rule of law will triumph. I will continue to fulfill my oversight responsibility as Chairman of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to conduct robust investigations because no one, not even the President of the United States, is above the law.”
