Chair DeFazio Applauds President Biden’s American Jobs Plan: “Visionary and Exactly What People Across This Country Have Been Asking For”

Washington, DC – Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) released the following statement on President Joe Biden announcing his American Jobs Plan:

“President Biden’s American Jobs Plan is visionary and exactly what people across this country have been asking for from national leaders for years, even decades. The plan the president laid out today makes the kind of investments that I believe we should be making to move our infrastructure out of the 1950s and into the modern era. I am especially excited about his focus on building infrastructure that is more resilient to our changing climate, electrifying our highway system, and investing heavily in transit and other cleaner mobility options.

“In announcing this plan, President Biden has taken the conversations that I’ve had with him, Vice President Harris, and Secretary Buttigieg, and he’s put those words into action. The American Jobs Plan will not only make bold, transformational investments in our nation’s transportation and infrastructure, it will do so with an emphasis on creating good-paying jobs, supporting American manufacturing, investing in rural and urban communities alike, and addressing the greatest challenge of our time, the climate crisis. I’m also pleased to see that ‘Amtrak Joe’ and I share the goals of creating a robust national rail network that is clean, efficient, reliable, and resilient to extreme weather.

“As my Committee continues its work to pass our surface transportation reauthorization legislation this spring, I’m excited to have a partner in the White House with a robust plan to move our infrastructure into the 21st century, and I look forward to working with the Biden administration on our common goal of delivering results for all Americans in communities of all sizes.”
