Chair DeFazio Responds to Reports Trump Family Considers Selling Hotel in Old Post Office Building

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) issued the following statement after media reports of the Trump Organization looking to sell its hotel currently housed in the federally-owned Old Post Office Building in Washington, D.C.

“I issued a subpoena just yesterday to get answers about what I believe is the illegal nature of the lease and a violation of the emoluments clauses because the American people have a right to know if the President is abusing the power of his office. Removing the Trump Organization from the lease of a taxpayer-owned building is a good place to start to ensure President Trump isn’t making a profit as both landlord and tenant of the Old Post Office Building, but given everything I’ve seen from dealing with this administration and the GSA over the past two years, I’m skeptical that this latest development isn’t an attempt to make a massive profit that directly benefits the Trump family so I will be following this marketing attempt closely.”
