Chair DeFazio Statement on House Passage of Inflation Reduction Act

EUGENE, OR— Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) issued the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Inflation Reduction Act:

“With the House passage of the Inflation Reduction Act today, we are making life better for the American people and taking tangible steps to fight the climate crisis. This bill will attack inflation, which is making it harder for families to make ends meet, while making corporations and the ultra-rich pay their fair share.

“Although I am disappointed this legislation does not include funding for transit and high speed passenger rail, I am pleased to see many priorities I have championed as Chair of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee included. The funding in this legislation to reconnect communities divided by highways, incentivize the use of low carbon construction materials, and invest in low emission aviation fuel infrastructure and technologies will make a real difference in communities across the country. The bill also authorizes FEMA to provide financial assistance for low carbon building materials and will help convert federal properties into high-performance green buildings.

“Importantly, it will build on the success of the historic Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to make our infrastructure more resilient, protect the environment, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. I look forward to the president signing this legislation into law so we can create good-paying jobs and cut costs for all Americans.”
