Washington, DC – Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA) released the following statements applauding President Biden for prioritizing Federal agency scrutiny of the Trump administration’s “Dirty Water Rule” and gutting of the environmental review process under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) as part of the President’s Executive Order titled, “Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis.”
“After four long years, the Trump administration’s war on clean water and the environment is finally over,” Chair DeFazio said. “Under President Biden’s leadership, our Nation will once again fight the climate crisis and work to protect our environment. I applaud the President’s call to scrutinize the previous administration’s dangerous ‘Dirty Water Rule’ and its weakening of the environmental review process—both of which gave industry a license to pollute at the expense of public health. With President Biden in the White House, I look forward to working together to protect the right of all communities to have access to clean water and a healthy environment.”
“Maintaining clean water, air, and land is what protects the health of our families, allows for the enjoyment of the natural wonders of our country, and creates economic opportunity in our communities,” Congresswoman Napolitano said. “We applaud the Biden administration for taking these important actions to bring truth and science back to the decision-making process, which will preserve our rivers, lakes, beaches, prairies, mountains and air for generations to come.”
