WASHINGTONAs part of The Hill’s virtual panel titled, “Reset 2021: A New American Start,” Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) spoke with The Hill’s Editor-at-Large Steve Clemons about his vision for rebuilding America’s infrastructure. Chair DeFazio discussed his legislation, the Moving Forward Act, which would create millions of good-paying American jobs while cutting carbon pollution from the transportation sector and making our infrastructure smarter, safer, and more resilient to climate change.

“We’ve been living off the Eisenhower legacy for more than half a century. It’s fallen apart,” DeFazio said. He stressed the need to rebuild infrastructure in a way that acknowledges the risks posed by climate change, continuing: “I don’t want to build anymore 40-, 60-year bridges, we’re going to build 100-year bridges in this country.”
