Ranking Member Larsen Applauds BNSF Railway’s Initial Commitment to FRA Confidential Close Call Reporting System

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) applauded the announcement that BNSF Railway and the American Train Dispatchers Association (ADTA) will partner for a year to participate in the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) Confidential Close Call Reporting System, which allows railroad employees to report unsafe events and conditions without fear of discipline or FRA enforcement. BNSF is now the second Class I freight railroad to participate in the program, following Norfolk Southern Railway’s January announcement.

“After every Class I railroad committed to joining the Confidential Close Call Reporting System last year, BNSF is now the second company to start to live up to this commitment,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “This is an important step in protecting rail workers and building a safer rail network for communities across the country. I look forward to the remaining freight railroads honoring their commitment to rail safety by promptly announcing their participation in the program.”
