Ranking Member Larsen Applauds POTUS for Focus on Infrastructure in SOTU: “Infrastructure Means Jobs”

Washington, D.C. – Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, during which the president hailed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for modernizing our transportation systems, addressing our infrastructure backlog and creating jobs.

“President Biden made it clear tonight that the state of our union is strong thanks in part to historic investments that will meet the nation’s infrastructure needs for decades to come, grow our middle class and strengthen our economic competitiveness,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “We are making our transportation system safer, cleaner, greener, and more accessible as projects across the country repair our roads and bridges, expand transit and rail service, create more livable communities, and increase port and airport capacity. These projects don’t happen on their own: infrastructure means jobs for millions of women and men. In my Congressional District alone, the law is expected to create or sustain more than 9,000 jobs and more than 112,000 jobs in Washington state.

“For the next two years, I will be laser focused on implementing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to build a future in which everyone benefits. I echo the President’s desire to work in a bipartisan manner—as we proved possible with the passage of once-in-a-generation infrastructure funding—and will work to do so whenever possible as ranking member. I look forward to working with President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary Buttigieg, and Chair Graves to finish the job of fixing America’s infrastructure.”
