Ranking Member Larsen Applauds Release of Frozen BRIC Funds After Months-Long Fight

Washington, D.C. — Today, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after the Trump administration unfroze funding for the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) grant program.

“After months of fighting alongside local and state officials involved in sparing families the worst impact of natural disasters, I am glad FEMA finally released critical funding that the Trump Administration had been holding back,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Communities across the country rely on BRIC funding to prepare for ever-increasing and severe natural disasters. In my state, Aberdeen was unable to build its long-planned flood-wall ahead of December flooding because this funding was held up by the administration. Slowing states’ ability to prepare for disasters was shortsighted, and communities like Aberdeen paid the price. I’ll work with FEMA to make sure local leaders are getting much-needed BRIC funding without further delay.”
