Washington, D.C.—Today, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after the Trump administration made cuts to the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Cadre of On-Call Response and Recovery (CORE) staff and reporting suggests more cuts are coming.
“After multiple Transportation and Infrastructure Committee hearings, we keep concluding FEMA needs more staff to meet the response needs of more frequent and severe disasters—like the recent flooding in my district. That’s why the Committee advanced the FEMA Act of 2025 with overwhelming bipartisan support,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Cutting CORE staff will leave remaining FEMA workers scrambling and disaster survivors waiting longer for assistance. This is the exact opposite of what we should be doing. The administration must reverse this decision.”
