Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after Admiral Linda L. Fagan, Commandant of the United States Coast Guard, delivered her State of the Coast Guard address.
“Tonight, Commandant Fagan illustrated how the U.S. Coast Guard will prepare for and combat climate change, root out sexual violence and recruit and retain a strong workforce to meet the challenges of the future,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “The Coast Guard’s new Climate Framework puts them on a path to build resilient infrastructure in the face of the climate crisis. I was particularly heartened to hear Admiral Fagan’s commitment to protecting seafarers in the event of harassment or sexual assault and to carrying out the requirements of the Safer Seas Act to help ensure everyone feels safe at work. New policies to recruit and retain a diverse workforce, including greater flexibility, improved benefits, and access to healthcare and childcare will attract the best and the brightest individuals to carry out the branch’s critical missions. I look forward to continuing working with Admiral Fagan to ensure the Coast Guard has the necessary tools to succeed.”
