Ranking Member Larsen Statement on Markup of Republican Pro-Pollution Package of Water Bills

Washington, D.C. – Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after the T&I Committee passed a package of 15 Republican bills that weaken Clean Water Act protections and threaten the safety of the nation’s water bodies.

“Today's markup of the Republicans’ pro-pollution package of water bills was a disappointing departure from this Committee's bipartisan work,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “All communities deserve access to clean water, which is why T&I Democrats stood united in opposition to this package that puts polluters over people by weakening Clean Water Act protections for the nation’s rivers, streams, lakes and wetlands. The more than a dozen partisan dirty water bills that passed today threaten the safety of swimming, fishing and so much more. I hope we can get back to working in a bipartisan manner to create good-paying jobs and safer, cleaner, greener and more accessible infrastructure.”
