Ranking Member Larsen Statement on One-Year Anniversary of FAA Reauthorization

Washington, D.C.— Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024 being signed into law by former President Joe Biden.

“Last year, Congress took decisive action to improve aviation safety, foster aerospace innovation, grow our workforce and better protect the flying public by passing the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. This bipartisan law makes critical safety investments—including a mandate to maximize hiring of air traffic controllers and deploy more runway safety technology at airports—grows America’s aviation workforce by creating good-paying jobs and improves aging infrastructure nationwide,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “This is a precarious moment for the U.S. aviation industry. In the wake of the tragic midair collision near DCA and trend of near misses and runway incursions across the country, something must change. The 2024 FAA reauthorization is a five-year blueprint on how this Administration can address many of the recent safety issues we’ve seen. It's time for the FAA to fully implement and build on this law. Problems with our aviation system have crossed Administrations, but safety improvements cannot span generations.”
