Ranking Member Larsen Statement on Trump Administration Effort to Stop Nation’s Largest Infrastructure Project

Washington, D.C.—Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement regarding the Trump administration’s effort to halt the Gateway Hudson Tunnels project in the New York metropolitan area, the largest infrastructure project in the country.

“Once again, the Trump administration is attacking the largest infrastructure project in the country—increasing costs for American families and jeopardizing thousands of jobs and safer rides for hundreds of thousands of rail passengers,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Last time the administration delayed the Hudson Tunnels project, it cost taxpayers $2 billion. If the project is stopped, one thousand workers will lose their jobs in less than two weeks, and nearly 100,000 more are at risk if the project is cancelled altogether. The tunnels must be built to make long-needed infrastructure improvements and keep the economy moving. Workers, contracts and equipment are already in place. Federal, state and local funds are already committed. We cannot afford any more unnecessary, costly delays.”
