Ranking Member Larsen’s Statement on the Impact of GOP Debt Ceiling Brinkmanship on our Transportation System

Everett, WA – Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after the Treasury Department announced it will need to take “extraordinary measures” to prevent the U.S. from defaulting on its debt obligations.

“While Republicans play chicken with the economy, Democrats are focused on implementing the infrastructure law that is creating jobs, boosting local economies and making America more globally competitive,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Defaulting on our country’s debt could, among other things, jeopardize the safety of our national airspace if air traffic controllers go unpaid, and threaten funding for important infrastructure projects underway in communities around the country. People want help building a future in which everyone benefits–not the same old partisan brinkmanship that puts the full faith and credit of the United States at risk while having no impact on reducing spending.”
