Ranking Member Larsen and Rep. Carson Statements on Air Traffic Controllers Missing First Full Paycheck

Washington, D.C.—Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Representative Andre Carson (D-IN) released the following statements as air traffic controllers missed their first full paycheck due to the Republican shutdown.

“Thank you to our steadfast and invaluable air traffic controllers whose already difficult job became more stressful today when they missed their first full paycheck due to the Republican shutdown,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Controllers should not have to worry about getting a second job or feeding their families while protecting travelers. Republicans need to get serious; it’s time to fix the healthcare crisis, end this shutdown and pay our essential transportation safety workers.”

“Air traffic controllers deserve to be paid on time—period,” Representative Carson said. “Speaker Johnson could reconvene the House anytime to pass our bill that pays air traffic controllers and essential aviation safety personnel, but he won't. The safety of our skies is more important than politics, and it's time the House majority starts acting like it.”
