Washington, D.C. – Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) released the following statement after today’s partisan markup of reconciliation legislation.
“Today’s markup of the Republican reconciliation legislation is a departure from the regular, bipartisan work of this Committee,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “Everyone on this Committee agrees we need to support the Coast Guard, improve our air traffic control system and keep surface transportation investments going. Unfortunately, the Republicans’ reckless budget cuts this Committee off at the knees as we look to continue historic funding for transportation, water infrastructure, clean energy and stronger, healthier communities. These investments benefit everyone, not a select few.
“T&I Democrats could not vote for today’s legislation, which is part of a larger package to cut hundreds of millions of dollars for Medicaid, slash food assistance for children and raise the debt by more than $14 trillion to give billionaires like Elon Musk $7 trillion in tax cuts.
“This Committee is at its best when we work together, and I hope we can continue this bipartisan tradition to advance transportation safety and improve infrastructure.”
