Ranking Member Larsen Statement on DOT Stopping Transportation Research

Washington, D.C.—Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA), released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) terminated $54 million in grants for seven University Transportation Centers, depriving students of enriching research opportunities and communities of improved transportation systems.

“Who knew it was woke to research ways to connect rural communities using public transit, ensure everyone has access to reliable transportation and make it easier for Americans to commute to work,” Ranking Member Larsen said.“Unfortunately, today’s DOT announcement is yet another example of the Trump Administration holding Congressionally-approved funds hostage and slowing improvements to transportation systems thanks to a misguided DEI bogeyman. The Administration should reverse this decision and allow these universities to continue working to create jobs, grow the economy and improve travel.”
