Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court announced its decision to not hear the state of Alaska’s lawsuit attempting to overturn the Biden Administration’s actions to block the Pebble Mine project and protect the Bristol Bay watershed. Today’s decision will require Alaska’s lawsuit to follow the normal federal appeals process.
“The Supreme Court’s decision is great news for Bristol Bay, one of the nation’s most pristine natural areas and the world’s largest salmon fishery,” Ranking Member Larsen said. “It will allow the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and its indigenous communities—including the Yup’ik, Dena’ina, and Alutiiq peoples—to continue to rely on this pristine area of cultural and economic significance.”
