Ranking Members Larsen and Carson, Vice Ranking Member Pou Statement on Trump Administration Plan to Divert and Cancel International Flights

Washington, DC Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA), Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation André Carson (D-IN) and Vice Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation Nellie Pou (D-NJ), released the following statement regarding reports that the Trump administration is working to divert international travelers from certain U.S. cities starting with Newark, New Jersey.

“Diverting and cancelling international flights to make a political point would be nuts even if we were not on the verge of hosting the world’s biggest sporting event, the FIFA World Cup,” the Representatives said. “That this scheme was apparently hatched without input from the experts at DOT and FAA explains in part why it is so poorly conceived. The administration must make immediately clear that Americans will not be stranded abroad and travelers will continue to freely and safely visit all U.S. destinations. To do otherwise risks thousands of jobs nationwide, a major economic disruption, and the loss of billions of tourist dollars in connection with the World Cup.”
