Ranking Members Larsen, Cohen, T&I Rep. Moulton, House Democrats Oppose Undue Influence on FAA to Award Contract to Starlink

Washington, D.C.—Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Aviation Steve Cohen (D-TN), T&I Rep. Seth Moulton (D-MA) and fellow House Democrats sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Acting Administrator Chris Rocheleau requesting more information regarding reports the FAA may cancel a multi-billion dollar Verizon contract in favor of Elon Musk’s Starlink.

“We write to express our concern regarding recent reports that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is facing undue pressure to considering cancelling its existing, long-term communications system modernization contract with Verizon, in favor of starting a new contract with Starlink in violation of fair and proper procurement processes,” the Members wrote.

“Although Starlink is now denying any effort to take over the FENS contract, recent reporting has led Members of Congress and the general public to question whether Mr. Musk’s current role in the Trump Administration is unfairly influencing the FAA’s modernization efforts,” the Members continued.

The Members asked Acting Administrator Rocheleau for clarification on the situation: is the Department of Transportation or FAA planning to cancel this contract or not? They are also seeking clarification of Elon Musk’s and DOGE’s involvement in FAA operations.
