Ranking Members Larsen, Titus: Stop Withholding Pipeline Safety Trust’s Grant

Washington, D.C.— Today, House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member Rick Larsen (D-WA) and House Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Ranking Member Dina Titus (D-NV) sent a letter to Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Administrator Paul Roberti that followed up on their initial July letter expressing concern regarding the lack of safety actions taken by the agency since President Donald Trump took office in January, as well as its withholding of Pipeline Safety Trust’s grant.

“[Withholding this grant] is extremely concerning since PST is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting pipeline safety,” the Members wrote.

“The recent Olympic Pipeline leak near Everett, WA underscores the need for the public to have a champion for pipeline safety,” the Members wrote. “Sending PST on a wild goose chase will not help the communities near this spill, and others across the nation, or improve pipeline safety.”

Ranking Members Larsen and Titus request answers within two weeks on PHMSA’s decision to withhold the Pipeline Safety Trust grant.
