Chairs DeFazio, Napolitano Announce Members’ Day Hearing on Proposals for WRDA 2022

Washington, DC - Today, Chair of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Peter DeFazio (D-OR) and Chair of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA) announced that the subcommittee will hold a Members’ Day hearing to examine congressional priorities for a new Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) for 2022.

This hearing is an opportunity for all Members of the House of Representatives to highlight issues of importance in their district as they relate to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). Testimony from this hearing will inform the committee in the development of a new WRDA, which the committee expects to approve, on a bipartisan basis, later this year.

WRDAs are essential to the everyday lives of Americans and our economy. Nearly 80 percent of traded goods move through our nation’s ports, harbors, and inland waterways. Projects for flood damage reduction help protect both our rural and urban communities from coastal storms and inland flooding, benefiting millions of Americans. Ecosystem restoration projects restore and maintain our vital natural resources. This important work, carried out by the Corps, is made possible through the biennial enactment of WRDA.
