Ranking Members Larsen, Napolitano Applaud House Passage of the Water Resources Development Act of 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure Rick Larsen (D-WA) and Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment Grace F. Napolitano (D-CA) issued the following statements after the House of Representatives passed the Water Resources Development Act of 2024.

"Today's House passage of the sixth consecutive WRDA since 2014 builds on a proud tradition of bipartisan, bicameral support for ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of our ports, harbors and inland waterways, the resiliency of our communities and the protection of our natural resources," Ranking Member Larsen said. "The investments in WRDA 2024 will work to strengthen flood control, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure—keeping people healthy and communities protected. I appreciate the leadership of Chairman Graves and Subcommittee Chairman Rouzer for advancing this bill to make our nation's water infrastructure cleaner and greener, and I thank Ranking Member Napolitano for her leadership on this bill, as well as a career-long dedication to ensuring the resiliency of our nation’s water infrastructure. I look forward to the Senate passing WRDA 2024 and getting it to the President's desk to be signed into law."

“The Water Resources Development Act is our legislative commitment to investing in and protecting our communities from flooding and droughts, restoring our environment and ecosystems and keeping our nation’s competitiveness by supporting our ports and harbors," Ranking Member Napolitano said. "Through the biennial enactment of WRDA legislation, this Committee has addressed local, regional and national needs through authorization of new U.S Army Corps of Engineers projects, studies and policies that benefit every corner of the country. I am particularly thankful that we were able to include policies to improve upon and address the needs of water supply, which is critically important in drought prone regions such as Southern California and the West. We took input from over 300 Members of Congress who improved this bill with their insights into the needs of their communities. I am very proud to have worked with Chairman Graves, Ranking Member Larsen, Chairman Rouzer, and all members of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee in a true bipartisan manner to meet the water infrastructure needs of communities throughout America.”
